CALL FOR APPLICATIONS The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) and the International Centre for Water Security and Sustainable Management under the auspices of UNESCO (i-WSSM) are pleased to announce the Joint Capacity Building Program for Next Generation Water Security Leaders with a Focus on Groundwater. The program will take place from Sunday, July 13 to Friday, July 18, 2025, in Daejeon and Jeju Island. * The program will begin with an on-site orientation session and dinner on Sunday, July 13 at KIGAM IS-Geo in Daejeon. Overview This field-based program is designed to equip participants with applied knowledge and global perspectives on the sustainable management of groundwater resources, particularly in terms of quantity and quality. Through a balanced combination of expert-led lectures and immersive study visits—including visits to UNESCO-designated natural heritage sites— participants will deepen their understanding of groundwater systems, policies, and technologies in the context of climate resilience and sustainable development. Site Visits Lectures • K-water • Hancheon Reservoir • Hanbalk Reservoir • Suwolbong Peak • Western Wastewater Treatment Plant • Geomun Oreum Volcanic Cone, etc • Water Crisis and the Role of Groundwater • Status and Challenges of Groundwater Management • Groundwater Contamination and Remediation • Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) • Coastal Groundwater Management • Utilization of Groundwater, etc * The schedule may be subject to change water. - Applicants majoring in water-related fields such as water resource management, environmental/ agricultural engineering, etc. - Applicants who demonstrate a desire to engage in the program with a clear vision and purpose in the application form. ※ This program promotes the minimum women participation rate (30%) for gender-balanced opportunities. Due dates 23:59(KST), 14 May 2025 Certificate Participants will be awarded a certificate after completing all course requirements. Notes • The results of the selection will be announced on our website (unesco-iwssm.org – Newsroom - Announcements) by 6 pm (KST), 25 May 2025. Selected applicants will be contacted individually. • Selected applicants are required to complete an online pre-course before the program. |
